Aston Martin DB 5 Waterproof Half Covers
The Aston Martin DB5 was first released in 1963 and features a host of improvements over its older brother, the DB4. The Aston Martin DB5 featured an upgraded engine (4.0 litre compared to the DB4's 3.7 litre), a brand new five speed transmission, and notably three SU carburettors that produced 282 bhp resulting in a maximum top speed of 141 mph. The Aston Martin DB5 also featured much more as standard when compared with the DB4. Standard fittings Aston Martin chose to add to the DB5 include pile carpets, electric windows, reclining seats and an emergency fire extinguisher. All of the models of the Aston Martin DB5 that were produced featured 4 seats and 2 doors, no cut down or shorter wheel base versions were developed.
Of the most famous versions of the DB5 is the Vantage model produced by Aston Martin in 1964. Only 65 were created and are much sought after by enthusiasts and collectors the world over. 1963 saw the introduction of the convertible DB5, and the production run continued until 1965. One of the most unusual versions of the Aston Martin DB5 is the "shooting brake" estate model that was developed as a custom build for David Brown. Twelve more were modified to this standard in the future by Harold Radford and even though the lack of increased rear suspension resulted in the vehicle spinning off the road if the load shifted when turning a corner they are still seen as iconic designs thanks to their rarity.
Obviously the Aston Martin DB5 is by and large famous for being the original James Bond car when it was first seen in Goldfinger in 1964. Two cars were used for filming with the original prototype providing the "safer" driving shots and another vehicle being used for stunt work. Two more were taken on tour as a publicity stunt for the company and the film following its release. This started a long history of Aston Martin working with the creators of James Bond films, the DB5 was featured in Thunderball, and returned in more modern times in GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies and also Casino Royale.
