The Aston Martin DB4 represents a major milestone in the history of motoring development. Engineering techniques and technology had advanced so much that when the DB4 was produced between 1958 and 1963 that when stood alongside the DB Mark III and DB2/4 it makes its older siblings look positively antiquated. The Aston Martin DB4 is also progressive in terms of engine development, Tadek Marek designed the dual overhead cam straight six that powers the vehicle, it was a large 3.7 litre engine with a surplus of power.
New disc brakes, a unique new independent front suspension system, rack and pinion steering, sportier drive ratios and 240 bhp help seperate the DB4 from anything that has come before. Aston Martin experienced a number of teething troubles with their new vehicle but these were quickly dealt with and it went on to sell exceptionally well. Carrozzeria Touring created the tubular steel frame of the DB4 and helped style the exterior of the vehicle ensuring that it was visually stunning and equally aerodynamic. When it was unveiled at the 1958 London Motor Show the Aston Martin DB4 captured the imagination of many who were gathered to witness the revealing.
Due to massive customer demand Aston Martin released a convertible DB4 that could also be fitted with a detachable hardtop roof. This roof in particular is very rare and is in extremely high demand with enthusiasts and collectors. The DB4 proved so popular that Aston Martin produced many different versions of the vehicle, from the GT Zagato and Lagonda Rapide through to the stripped down, high performance GT model that could reach 153 mph. The stock Aston Martin DB4 could reach 139.3 mph and could get to 60 mph in a very respectible 9.3 seconds.
