Aston Martin DB 2/4 Waterproof Half Covers

 The unusually named Aston Martin DB2/4 was designed to replace the DB2 and was sold by the company starting in 1953. Production continued until 1957 and the Aston Martin DB2/4 was available in a variety of different types including a drophead coupe (of which 102 were constructed of a total production run of 565) and a 2+2 hatchback, a revolutionary design that was years ahead of its time. At a glance there is not much to seperate the Aston Martin DB2/4 from the older DB2, however if you examine the vehicles closely you may spot the larger windscreen and bumpers and new style lights that the newer vehicle possesses.
Some of the most sought after versions of the Aston Martin DB2/4 today are the Bertone bodied spiders that were available only as a commission purpose, they represent what was at the time revolutionary styling and a unique aesthetic that has been copied to this date. The engine that powered the Aston Martin DB2/4 was a dual overhead cam straight-6, the same type as used in the DB2 Vantage. It was a 2.6 litre engine producing 125 hp, however in 1954 this was replaced by a 2.9 litre 140 hp version that allowed the DB2/4 to reach the dizzying speeds of 120 mph. Aston Martin produced three unique versions of this vehicle for the Monte Carlo Rally in 1955 and two futher unique versions for the Mille Miglia.
This car is probably most famous for its appearance in Alfred Hitchcock's psychological thriller The Birds, this drophead coupe was purchased in the mid 1960's and fully restored apart from things that were deemed too important historically to fix such as undercarriage damage. Sadly this vehicle was written off by another owner just a few short years later. By 1955 Aston Martin had introduced a Mark II version of the DB2/4, complete with a larger 165 hp engine, smaller fins on the tail, new tail lights, and various chrome fixtures and fittings.
