astonmartindb2-41.jpgWhilst the Aston Martin DB2/4 may have an unusual name it does in fact signify exactly where the vehicle lies on the Aston Martin timeline. The DB2/4 was designed to directly replace the older DB2 model and it was offered for sale to the public in 1953 until 1957. In an effort to offer the customer more choice and expand their brand awareness Aston Martin offered the DB2/4 in a number of different versions including a drophead coupe, and the unique (for the time) 2+2 hatchback. Whilst the DB2 and DB2/4 share some visual similarities they are remarkably different vehicles, they can be told apart from the slightly different windscreen, bumpers, and different lights.

One of the most prestigious models of the Aston Martin DB2/4 was the Bertone spider edition. These were custom vehicles only available to purchase on special commission and are still highly sought after by enthusiasts to this day. The engine from the Aston Martin DB2 Vantage edition was used for the DB2/4, this dual cam straight six had a 2.6 litre capacity and was capable of 125 bhp. In the mid 1950's a 140 bhp 2.9 litre version was offered for sale, this version of the Aston Martin DB2/4 was capable ot reaching 120 mph.

Later on in the vehicles life Aston Martin introduced a Mark II model of the DB2/4. This featured a much larger 165 bhp engine along with a number of aesthetic changes, particularly the redisgned rear fins and tail lights. One of the things that the Aston Martin DB2/4 is recognised the world over for is for being seen in The Birds, the award winning film by Alfred Hitchcock. This exactly vehicle was kept lovingly restored in private hands until relatively recently when it was written off and could not be repaired.
