Aston Martin DB 2 Waterproof Half Covers
The Aston Martin DB2 was produced between the years 1950 through to 1953, and was the successor of the DB1 and represented something of a major leap in terms of technology utilised in the new design. The DB2 was very different to the previous DB1 (something of a commercial failure), sporting a larger 2.6 litre engine and various other refinements and modifications. The Aston Martin DB2 was first sold as a closed coupe, and in 1950 Aston martin produced a convertible version of the DB2 due to customer demand.
The Aston Martin DB2 was first unveiled at the New York Auto show in 1950, and was in immediate demand, however despite this demand the 2nd, 3rd and 4th DB2 models that were produced were kept back for racing in an effort to raise awareness of the new vehicle. These vehicles, where raced in the 1950 Le Man’s 24 hour rally and faired very well with two of the DB2 types coming in first and second in their respective classes. The decision to hold a number of production models back for racing proved sensible as this string of wins brought fame to Aston Martin and allowed David Brown to go on to produce the DB3 series just for racing.
When the Aston Martin DB2 was first produced it was designed with the rectangle grill that would be unfamiliar to many before this was replaced with the traditional grill we all know and associate immediately with Aston Martin. The DB2 had a top speed of 116mph (187km/h) with a horsepower rating of 105, and in 1951 Aston Martin released the first Vantage upgrade that boasted more horsepower, 125 to be precise. The layout of the Aston Martin DB2 may seem unfamiliar to many modern drivers; they were built with the luggage space behind the front seats, and the boot was used for storing the spare tire. In total 411 Aston Martin DB2 vehicles were produced making it an exceptional success at a time when the industry was highly competitive.
