Aston Martin DB 1 Lightweight Breathable Car Covers
One of the most famous of all different types of Aston Martin is the world recognised "2 Litre Sports" model (otherwise known as the DB1) that helped launch the company to worldwide recognition. It was the first vehicle to be created by new director David Brown (his initials being where the DB model name for many Aston Martin types comes from) and became known retrospectively as the DB1. It was offered to the public between 1948 and 1950, however it did not prove to be anything even remotely resembling a success with only 15 models being sold! What it did do was put the company firmly on the map and establish them as a credible name in luxury auto-mobile manufacturing.
The Aston Martin DB1 was designed around a much older experimental design known as the Atom. This car was designed at the height of the second world war and featured a tubular frame chassis and a large 2.0 litre engine. This basic design was upgraded and modified and the first version of the vehicle entered a 24 hour rally in 1948 and won first place. This led to the DB1 being known as the "spa car" (Spa being the town in which the 24 hour rally took place) and Aston Martin decided to capitalise on how well known it was after taking victory in the rally by offering it for sale to the general public. It did not sell well however it was gradually evolved into what we now know as the DB1, a hallmark vehicle in motoring and important vehicle for Aston Martin.
The London Motor show received the new Aston Martin DB1 with open arms and even though only 15 people decided to purchase eventually it was still an impressive vehicle for the time in which it was constructed. It could reach the dizzying speed of over 90 mph thanks to the 90 bhp 2.0 litre engine and as the first DB vehicle the Aston Martin DB1 has an important place in the history of motoring.
